Donald R. McCrabb, D.Min.
Don serves as the first president of the Catholic Youth Foundation USA. He began this position in July 2011.
Education and Professional Experience
Don is a graduate of Wright State University (1975) where he majored in religion and political science. Don did his master's of theology (1978) at the University of Dayton and his doctorate of ministry (1998) at United Theological Seminary, also in Dayton.
A lifelong lay ecclesial minister, Don served as a "peer" minister at Wright State University. After graduate school, Don served as pastoral associate at St. Raphael Parish in Springfield, Ohio, where he was director of religious education and youth minister. Don returned to campus ministry serving at Central State University and Wilberforce University in Xenia, Ohio. Don became the second executive director of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association in 1985 and served in that position till 1998.
In coming to Washington, D.C., Don served as the director of development for Sojourners. Then, in 1999, Don joined the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies where he taught pastoral theology and oversaw the pastoral formation of the seminarians. Don also joined the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown as senior consultant. He co-authored, with Jon Wiggins, The Parish Self-Study Guide.
In 2008, Don joined the Catholic Leadership Institute and served as a learning leader for Good Leaders, Good Shepherds—a 29-day leadership formation curriculum for priests—and Tending the Talents, a leadership formation curriculum for parish and diocesan leaders.
Personal
Don is married to Barbara Humphrey McCrabb who serves, after a distinguished career in campus ministry, as the assistant director for Higher Education at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Barbara and Don have three sons and two granddaughters. They make their home in Washington, D.C., and are active members of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart.
