Creativity Surges at CMD Adolescent Workshops
More than eleven hundred people in twenty-two dioceses were trained this spring in the Center for Ministry Development’s workshop series “Adolescent Catechesis: Knowing Jesus, Growing As Disciples.”
Discipleship in All Spheres
Workshop participants learned the results of current research into ways that adolescents learn their faith and grow in discipleship. They were introduced to research on the adolescent brain, information from the National Symposium on Adolescent Catechesis, and practical ways that parishes can engage youth in learning the Catholic faith.
Much energy and excitement were generated when participants were asked to brainstorm ways to help youth learn about being a disciple of Jesus using all the settings—peer group, family, parish, and community. Within the activity they were able to see the advantages of using all the settings. Much creativity was unleashed when they brainstormed with other participants. Great ideas were generated, and the advantage of broadening their efforts was easily understood.
Response to the workshop has been very positive, and CMD has been happy to help bring people together to share ideas and concerns about adolescent catechesis and to provide direction for the future.
