Region 5
We are looking forward to hosting the NCCYM December 9-12, 2010. At our recent region meeting, we gathered in New Orleans to “get a taste” of the goodness NFCYM membership will enjoy when the adult conference convenes in 2010. Make plans now! The staff of the Office of Youth Ministry in New Orleans has plans that will make the 2010 NCCYM one of the most memorable experiences in your future! Guaranteed!
Our region, which comprises 18 dioceses in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, is divided into three provinces and we have structured our leadership to utilize the gifts and talents of each province’s membership. The Leadership Circle, with its provincial representatives and chairpersons, is the pool from which regional meeting planners are selected. Additionally, our representative to the NFCYM Board of Directors serves on the leadership circle. We have also made a commitment to send members of the leadership circle and two at-large representatives to the NFCYM’s Annual Membership Meeting.
With the current financial difficulties that many dioceses are facing, we know that this is not possible for all regions, but we hope to be able to continue to serve our region and the broader Federation with representation and leadership at the annual working meeting of the membership.
At our region meeting in-service, we were aptly led by our own Mike Patin to reflect on how we cope with and negotiate “change” in life and ministry. This topic is certainly one that impacts most diocesan leaders’ work during this critical time of our country and church.
We only can manage one face-to-face meeting each year so we try to make the most of it. This year, we enjoyed a wonderful celebration of the ministry of Catherine Mensi of Memphis as she “retires” from twenty-six years as the director of youth ministry for her diocese. God’s continued blessings, Catherine!
