Youth Events Management Committee
The Youth Events Management Committee spent most of its time at the 2005 NFCYM Annual Membership Meeting in Savannah, Georgia, working to identify a statement of purpose and values to guide its efforts. This statement has led us to the conclusion that we need to revise the current management plan for the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in light of its current size in order to more clearly delineate the process, including roles and responsible agents, that it takes to manage the development and implementation not only of NCYC but also of other possible NFCYM-sponsored youth events.
Our hope is that the work of the management committee will be more aligned with the NFCYM’s by-laws and operating procedures and that the committee can spend its time visioning for future youth events while insuring the proper preparation for NCYC. We ask for your prayerful support as we undertake this endeavor and seek to create a strategic approach that breathes life into all NFCYM-sponsored youth events.
The Statement of Purpose
The Youth Events Management Committee serves the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry by setting vision and values for NFCYM-sponsored youth events while respecting the need for the National Catholic Youth Conference to serve as a funding source for the organization.
Guided by sacred Scripture, tradition, and the documents of the Catholic Church, the core purpose of the Youth Events Management Committee is to set processes and procedures for the oversight, development, implementation, and evaluation of NFCYM-sponsored youth events.
Guided by the goals of youth ministry expressed in Renewing the Vision, the Youth Events Management Committee strives to embody the following values in all NFCYM-sponsored youth events:
• Youth involvement in leadership or ministerial roles
• Accessibility to youth events
• Diversity within the church
• Interaction with church leaders by young people
• Meaningful opportunities for prayer
• Safe environment for all participants and staff
• Responsible stewardship of resources
• Holistic programming that is grounded in church teaching
• Methodology that is developmentally-appropriate
