2021 Theme: Ablaze • Enciende el Fuego

The second chapter of the book of Acts tells about the coming of the Holy Spirit. At NCYC 2021, we will call upon the Holy Spirit to descend upon our young Church and set them Ablaze for the Lord!

Planning in a Pandemic

updated 9/15/21

COVID-19 continues to dominate the news. We at the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) continue to pray for all those affected by this virus and for the development and deployment of improved treatment and prevention protocols, and the availability of vaccines to prevent illness.

NFCYM continues to move forward in a spirit of hope and optimism with plans for an in-person National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) November 18-20, 2021, in Indianapolis. We continue to consult with public health officials and learn from mitigation strategies employed by other event hosts. If you have previously participated in NCYC, 2021 will look and operate differently to help protect participants to the degree possible from infection.

Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present. NFCYM cannot guarantee that NCYC participants will not be exposed to COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that some people are more likely than others to become severely ill, and some people are at a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19. Participants and their families should evaluate their own risk when determining whether to participate. People who show no symptoms can spread COVID-19 if they are infected, and any interaction with the public poses an elevated risk of being exposed to COVID-19. By coming to NCYC, participants and their families acknowledge and agree that they assume these inherent risks associated with attendance.

Mitigating Risks

  • Everyone attending NCYC must have either received a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 72 hours before departure to Indianapolis, or are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • Everyone must wear a face covering (aka, mask) that covers their nose and mouth while in the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, except during designated breaks and while actively eating or drinking in the designated areas. Speakers, artists, and others who appear on a stage may remove their masks while on stage.
  • Face covering should have two (2) or more layers of breathable fabric, which completely cover the nose and mouth, are secured under the chin, fit snuggly against the face without gaps, and have a nose wire to prevent air leaking from the top of the mask. Face shields alone, masks with exhalation valves, single-layer bandannas, bandannas that open below the chin, single-layer gaiters, scarves, and costume masks are unacceptable.
  • Everyone is encouraged to wash or sanitize their hands regularly. There are hand sanitizing stations located outside every meeting room in the convention center.
  • Those with compromised immune systems should not plan to attend NCYC.
  • Those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or were instructed to quarantine due to COVID-19 exposure may not attend.
  • Those who display symptoms of illness at NCYC will be asked to leave and quarantine in their hotel or home; transportation to their hotel/home is the responsibility of the participant or his/her guardian/chaperone.

NFCYM reserves the right to eject, rescind NCYC credentials, and bar from entry (with no right to refund) anyone who fails to abide by the COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the appropriate codes of conduct, or the behavior guidelines. Responsibility for transportation home remains with the participant or his/her guardian/chaperone.

Ticket Purchaser/Group Leader Considerations

  • Group leaders will need to certify before picking up credentials onsite that all group members have either received a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 72 hours before departure to Indianapolis, or are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • Group leaders should conduct a daily health screening of their members to identify, isolate, and treat anyone who may be feeling sick.
  • Group leaders will need a plan to isolate and care for group members who become ill during travel to or from or in Indianapolis.
  • Group leaders should have a supply of replacement masks for participants who lose or break theirs.
Mitigation strategies are subject to change.
