320 The Aftermath of Tragedy: Helping Young People Get Through It, Not “Over It”

How do you help young people begin the healing process following a tragedy, whether it be a natural disaster, a sudden death, or the breakup of a relationship? How do you recognize the symptoms of increased emotional distress that occur following a crisis situation in a young person’s life? This session is designed to help adults develop the skills needed to fashion an appropriate pastoral care response that includes prayer and advocacy, and when necessary, referral to trained professionals. The need to care for the caregivers will also be addressed.

As ministers, catechists, parents, and educators, it is good for us to know the good and not-so-good news about how our teens know and practice their Catholic faith. Once you hear the news, the question is “What are we going to do about it?”
