NCYC Theme Song Contest
The Youth Events Management Committee of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry is in search of a theme song for its 2011 National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) to be held in Indianapolis, November 17-19.
Conference Themes and Scriptural References
The theme for the conference is Called to Glory/Llamados a la Gloria (Matthew 25:31-46). The general sessions will be themed around the following statements:
- Friday Morning: Search for Christ (Deut 4:29)
- Friday Evening: Connect with Christ (Lk 19:45-48)
- Saturday Morning: Share Christ (1 Peter 3:15)
Criteria for Composition
The selected song will be used as the anthem for the whole conference. The song should be catchy, moving, and use language that speaks to young people. Lyrics should relate to the conference theme, as well as the general session themes, and perhaps contain key words or phrases from the Scriptural references. The song should be melodic, easy to pick up, and adaptable (could be played at a variety of tempos). Composers should keep in mind that the song will be used in a variety of settings, including liturgy. At a minimum, the song should include Spanish in the refrain, though Spanish verses would be an added benefit.
Criteria for Submission
Submissions will only be accepted via email and must be received no later than 4 p.m. EDT on Friday, May 28, 2010.
A complete submission must include:
- Cover email including the following information: composer's name, full mailing address, preferred email address, and daytime telephone number/cell phone number.
- A recording of the song (mp3 or similar file format).
- A lyric sheet with score (including melody line and chords).
Submissions should be sent to ncyc@nfcym.org with NCYC Theme Song in the reference line. Composers will be sent an email confirmation of receipt once all materials are received. Be aware that the maximum attachment size allowed by NFCYM’s server is 10MB and .ZIP files are held by the server for security purposed. If attachments exceed 10MB, they will not be delivered and the sender and recipient may or may not receive a failure notice. If composer does not receive an email confirmation within three business days, it is incumbent upon him/her to send an email inquiry without attachments and/or resubmit her/his materials. NFCYM is not responsible for submission failure.
Selection Process
All submissions received by the deadline will be reviewed and evaluated by the Youth Events Management Committee. Selected submissions will be forwarded to a committee of youth from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for selection of the final song. The process should be completed and applicants notified of final decision by July 15, 2010.
Use of Selected Song
The selected song will be used in the promotional video for the 2011 NCYC which will be distributed to diocesan directors of youth ministry in Fall 2010 on DVD and posted on NFCYM’s and others’ websites. In addition, the successful composer will be invited to perform the song live at the 2011 National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis.
Please note that the NFCYM must have the right to use or perform the selected song in any format at any time without the need for permission from or compensation paid to the composer or other copyright holder. If the finalist cannot meet these conditions, then another song may be selected. Also, no changes should be made to the composition once submitted or chosen without notification and consent of NFCYM.
