Responding to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. We encourage the Catholic youth ministry community to contribute to the relief efforts.
UPDATE TO
A Special Appeal from Houston
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston' s Office of Youth Ministry and St. Vincent dePaul Society played a vital role in assisting the New Orleans evacuees that were relocated to Houston's Astrodome. They have been overwhelmed with your generosity. If you are still interested in assisting this effort, please see the updated flyer (9KB PDF file) for a revised list of what is needed.
Katrina Project Update
Over $60,775 was pledged (10/26/05) to send youth and adults to the NCYC. Thank you.
Through the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, Catholic Youth Foundation USA (CYFUSA) networked dioceses and parishes participating in NCYC with young people from hurricane-affected dioceses. Approximately 200 youth and adults were assisted in attending NCYC through the Katrina Project.
At NCYC, many of the diocesan/parish donors and recipients were able to meet together for felowship, sharing, and prayer.
The Catholic Youth Foundation USA is making grant applications from hurricane-affected dicoeses and parishes a priority for the next two years, in order to assist youth ministry programs in their re-building.
