Adolescent Catechesis
Adolescent Catechesis Initiative
The NFCYM, NCCL, and NCEA are collaborating on the Adolescent Catechesis Initiative. Representatives from each of the national organizations meet regularly to together vision and plan for furthering the ministry of adolescent catechesis. The National Directory of Catechesis emphasizes a systematic and intentional approach to adolescent catechesis within a comprehensive youth ministry, identifying the need for creative methodologies, formats, and settings, while providing solid content.
The first two of eight monographs from the Initiative are now available.
- Adolescent Catechesis and the National Directory for Catechesis: It's About Discipleship by Dan Mulhall, USCCB Department of Education
- The State of Adolescent Catechesis: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats by Paul Henderson, USCCB Department of Printing and Publishing
The recent National Study of Youth and Religion identifies serious challenges to the Catholic Church's pastoral ministry with young people. Therefore, catechetical and youth ministry leaders need to invest resources, personnel, and time in responding to the religious and spiritual hungers of our young people.
The inter-organizational team will continue to foster a shared vision for effective and comprehensive adolescent catechesis among our respective constituencies.
