Catholic to the Core

2006 Youth Ministry Resource ManualThe latest Youth Ministry Resource Manual helps young people embrace the fullness of our Catholic identity at time when many young people are wondering what it means to be Catholic. The sessions take them inside the various beliefs, traditions, and practices that externally mark one a Catholic that they may discover the richness and deeper meaning of their own Catholic identity in today’s world. The sessions cover some of the basic—or core—beliefs that comprise the Catholic faith. These core beliefs focus on:

  • Grace
  • The Eucharist
  • Scripture
  • Prayer and Worship
  • Moral Decision-making
  • Church History and Tradition
  • Saints
  • Evangelization and Witness

A variety of strategies are used to help young people embrace the faith:

  • A retreat that exposes young people to various prayer styles
  • A reconciliation service that focuses on the stations of the cross
  • An activity on saints that uses a game show
  • A session on grace that centers on a film clip, and
  • A session on Catholic identity that utilizes a large apple image taped to the middle of the floor

Each of these strategies is used to help youth connect to their faith experientially, involving many or all of their senses in learning about their Catholic identity.
